The role mixes body building and mechanical repair. On the body side, you would handle fabrication and welding, structural repairs and bodywork on many trailer makes and models, using technical drawings. On the mechanical side, you would inspect, service, diagnose and repair trailers, including brakes, suspension and running gear. Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate trailer parts and structures
- Weld as part of fabrication and repairs
- Repair structures and bodywork on many trailer makes and models
- Inspect and service trailers
- Diagnose faults and repair trailers
- Maintain brakes, suspension and running gear
- Interpret technical drawings and solve problems hands-on
Requirements & Eligibility
- Strong skills in welding and fabrication work
- Able to understand and interpret technical drawings
- Experience with steel as well as aluminium
- Proven background with heavy vehicles and trailers
- Strong mechanical fault-finding skills
- Strong mechanical repair skills
- Knowledge of trailer running-gear brands such as K-Hitch, Hendrickson, SAF and BPW
- Experience with electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Relevant trade qualifications and/or good, solid experience in the industry
- If possible, also: an HR or other truck licence, a forklift licence, confined space certification, intermediate rigging, overhead crane experience
