An established accounting practice in Cairns, Queensland is looking for a Senior Accountant to take real ownership of a portfolio of SME clients. It is a hands-on practice role that rewards sound tax knowledge and a good client manner.
Candidates requiring sponsorship may be considered where all professional requirements are met. The practice wants someone with solid Australian public practice behind them who is ready to grow, over time, into a Manager role, and who is happy to deal with clients directly about accounts, tax and wider business questions.

Key Responsibilities
- Run accounting and tax work for your own portfolio of SME clients
- Build lasting client relationships and speak with clients directly about accounting, taxation and business questions
- Prepare tax returns and financial statements accurately and efficiently
- Put practical knowledge of Division 7A requirements to work, and handle Capital Gains Tax (CGT) and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) matters
- Support clients on accounting and business advisory needs, joining advisory projects and other value-added services
- See that work meets a high professional and compliance standard
- Work closely with colleagues so clients get consistent outcomes
- Build the technical and leadership capability that leads to a Manager role
Requirements & Eligibility
- Qualified as CA or CPA, or close to completing
- Australian Public Practice experience of at least 4 years
- Strong practical grounding in Australian tax compliance, including hands-on knowledge of Division 7A, CGT and FBT
- A proven record working with SME clients and managing client relationships independently
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Polished professional presentation and interpersonal skills, with a high level of attention to detail
- A reliable work ethic and professional attitude
- Shows willingness to learn and take on greater responsibility
- Works effectively in a collaborative accounting environment
