Underground Heavy Diesel Fitter

Visa sponsorship

Trade · Sydney, NSW, Australia · Full-Time · $59/hr · Visa: Employer sponsored

A Sydney employer is looking for qualified mechanics and fitters who can show what they have actually done on heavy machines. Your background might be farm machinery, earthmoving, civil construction, quarrying, heavy transport or mining; the weight falls on proven work rather than on where you did it.

Day to day you will track down faults, complete repairs and keep complex mechanical systems running safely and efficiently. Visa sponsorship is available for eligible candidates, which suits Malaysian tradespeople with solid heavy-equipment experience.

Add the machines you have maintained and your trade certificate to your CV, then draft an underground diesel fitter CV on Build AI CV.

Key Responsibilities

  • Keep heavy mobile machinery in service across demanding operating conditions
  • Inspect machines and spot mechanical trouble early, before it grows into a major failure
  • Diagnose faults across engines, hydraulics, transmissions, drivelines and brakes
  • Repair and replace components, including major change-outs, rebuilds and overhauls
  • Maintain underground loaders, haul trucks, drills and other specialised plant
  • Attend breakdowns and get equipment back to a safe working state
  • Carry out preventive maintenance on schedule, as each site requires
  • Rely on technical manuals, drawings and hydraulic schematics for diagnosis, and keep clear records of repairs, servicing and defects
  • Report equipment issues and maintenance needs to supervisors, finish pre-start inspections, follow isolation and permit procedures and work safely in a high-risk maintenance team

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A recognised trade qualification, for example Certificate III or equivalent in Diesel Fitting, Heavy Vehicle Mechanics, Plant Mechanics or Agricultural Mechanics
  • Genuine employment history repairing and maintaining heavy machinery, showing relevant mechanical duties
  • Sound troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, with working knowledge of hydraulics, engines, transmissions, drivelines and braking systems
  • Having worked underground is beneficial but not mandatory
  • Time on Caterpillar, Sandvik or Epiroc equipment is highly regarded
  • Heavy-equipment experience from agriculture, earthmoving, civil, quarrying or heavy transport will be considered
  • A current driver's licence
  • Comfortable with rostered shifts and a residential mining environment
  • Good communication, teamwork in a crew and the ability to work independently within established safety procedures
  • Eager to learn new machinery and underground mining practices; additional mining, confined space, working at heights or first aid qualifications are advantageous
  • Willingness to complete pre-employment medical and functional assessments, and to supply evidence of your qualifications and relevant work experience
