A reputable venue on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland needs an experienced Sous Chef ready to carry more responsibility in a professional kitchen. Alongside the Head Chef you would coordinate kitchen activity, back up the culinary team, hold food standards and help the venue's food operation keep developing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Head Chef in running the kitchen day to day, and take charge when the Head Chef is away
  • Coordinate preparation and service so work flows smoothly, leading the team through busy trading
  • Supervise staff and allocate responsibilities clearly
  • Keep food quality, presentation, flavour and portions consistent
  • Contribute to menu planning, seasonal offerings and ideas for specials
  • Watch stock levels, help with purchasing and supplier orders, and keep food costs and waste down
  • Make sure food is stored, prepared and handled properly, following HACCP, food safety, hygiene and workplace safety procedures
  • Train, guide and mentor developing kitchen staff
  • Keep the kitchen clean and organised and check equipment practices
  • Work with management and front-of-house, and help build a respectful, accountable, professional team

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Proven record as a Sous Chef, Senior Chef or comparable senior kitchen professional
  • Formal qualification in Commercial Cookery
  • Strong commercial or hospitality kitchen background
  • Demonstrated experience leading and supervising kitchen teams
  • Confident running high-volume service periods
  • Strong practical knowledge of food preparation and presentation
  • Understanding of HACCP, food hygiene, and food safety requirements
  • Good organisation and time management
  • Effective communication and leadership, staying calm and organised under service pressure
  • Reliable, proactive and hands-on
  • Committed to quality and consistency, willing to take responsibility and improve continuously
  • Evidence supporting relevant qualifications and professional experience
  • Australian working rights or eligibility for employer sponsorship
