An Auckland restaurant seeks a Restaurant Chef who combines proven kitchen expertise with leadership and a steady hand on quality. The chef will influence kitchen performance, menu quality and what guests experience. Malaysian chefs who have run a pass or trained junior cooks will recognise the brief.

The position is full-time. Suitable candidates may be supported through a sponsorship pathway based on eligibility and requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take the lead on everyday kitchen operations and keep service flowing
  • Cook and plate dishes to a steady standard
  • Work to menu specifications using professional culinary technique
  • Run food prep, ingredient handling and kitchen workflow
  • Keep an eye on stock and ordering, and cut food wastage
  • Follow strict food safety, hygiene and compliance practice
  • Lead, coach and train kitchen team members
  • Check finished dishes against presentation and quality expectations
  • Offer culinary ideas that improve menus and bring in new dishes, while helping keep food costs and portions under control
  • Look after kitchen equipment and tidy work areas, bringing reliability, professionalism and a commitment to hospitality excellence

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Recognised culinary qualification or relevant professional chef training
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a restaurant or commercial kitchen
  • A demonstrated ability to manage food preparation and hold service standards steady
  • Strong working knowledge of food safety, hygiene procedures and kitchen compliance requirements
  • Experience supervising, training or supporting other kitchen staff
  • Able to cope in a fast-paced hospitality environment, with strong communication skills and a team-focused approach
  • A creative approach to food preparation, menu development and presentation
  • Good understanding of kitchen operations, inventory control and food costing
  • Proven work history with verifiable culinary skills and professional experience
