Product Engineer

Visa sponsorship

Engineering · Auckland, New Zealand · Full-Time · $27/hr · Visa: Employer sponsored

Malaysian engineers with an electronics manufacturing background should look at this Auckland opening. The Product Engineer on new product introduction (NPI) is the person who gets a new electronic design built reliably and at scale, joining colleagues from design, quality, procurement and the factory floor.

The post is full-time, and employer sponsorship is available for eligible international candidates. Days mix process development, test system support, root cause investigation and, now and then, a trip overseas.

Put the products you have launched, the test fixtures you have supported and your process-improvement projects on your CV, then shape a Product Engineer NPI CV with Build AI CV so it is ready to send.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide new products from first prototype all the way to volume production
  • Liaise with engineering, quality, purchasing and manufacturing colleagues while products are being developed
  • Design, prove and refine the processes used to build electronic and mechanical products
  • Support the test systems, fixtures and equipment on the production line
  • Chase down manufacturing, test and quality faults through structured root cause analysis, then apply corrective and preventive actions to lift product reliability and output
  • Mine production data for ways to raise efficiency and quality and cut cost
  • Back lean manufacturing and continuous process improvement projects
  • Draft and keep up engineering documents, build procedures, test plans and engineering change records
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners so production is ready and keeps improving, and give on-the-floor technical support during production and sustaining engineering, with occasional international travel

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering, or in a related engineering discipline
  • Minimum 5 years working in electronics and mechanical manufacturing environments
  • A firm grasp of new product introduction (NPI) and manufacturing readiness
  • Hands-on time building, supporting or troubleshooting manufacturing test fixtures and production equipment
  • Working knowledge of electronics manufacturing, assembly, quality systems and inventory management
  • Able to analyse manufacturing processes and deliver productivity and quality gains
  • PCB assembly manufacturing and electronic production testing experience is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with engineering documentation or product lifecycle management systems is advantageous
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • A strong communicator who works well across cross-functional teams, with professional English
  • Willingness to travel internationally on an occasional basis
