Newcastle drivers rely on mechanics who get the diagnosis right first time, and this established workshop is looking for an experienced Motor Mechanic to join its professional team. Applicants are assessed on qualifications, hands-on experience and technical skill that can be verified.

Day to day you would work through engines, transmissions, steering and other mechanical systems, using computerised diagnostics and manufacturer specifications, and contributing to a professional workshop team. Visa sponsorship is available for suitable candidates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Track down faults in engines, transmissions, steering and other vehicle systems
  • Examine components for damage, wear and defects, stripping down engines, transmissions and other assemblies where required
  • Fix, replace or rebuild components that are worn or faulty
  • Handle routine servicing and preventative maintenance such as oil changes, lubrication and tune-ups
  • Plug in computerised diagnostic equipment to pinpoint mechanical and system problems
  • Refer to technical information and manufacturer service specifications while working
  • Finish repairs to the technical standards the job demands
  • Test and fine-tune repaired parts to be sure they operate correctly
  • Inspect vehicles and identify what is needed to keep them roadworthy
  • Check how each vehicle performs once servicing or repairs are done
  • Keep the workshop clean, safe and orderly
  • Pitch in with workshop colleagues so jobs move along
  • Deliver dependable work with vehicle safety and customer satisfaction in mind

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A Certificate III or higher qualification in Motor Mechanics, Automotive Technology, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant professional automotive experience
  • Real hands-on experience with mechanical servicing and repairs
  • Strong at diagnosing vehicle faults and troubleshooting
  • Experience using computerised automotive diagnostic systems
  • Sound knowledge of engines, transmissions, steering and other mechanical systems
  • Comfortable following technical manuals and manufacturer specifications
  • Practical problem-solving, close attention to detail and quality workmanship
  • Works independently and as part of a professional workshop team, with good communication and workplace skills
  • Can provide evidence supporting relevant qualifications and employment experience
  • Overseas applicants must be willing to complete the required assessment and recruitment process
