Blenheim has an opening for a Maintenance Foreperson to run day-to-day road maintenance. This job suits someone who leads from the front, organises a small crew and stays calm when priorities change across a demanding road network. You will plan the work programme, check roads for defects and hazards, and keep safety and traffic management front of mind.

Key Responsibilities
- Head up a small maintenance crew on the roads: plan the day's work programme and decide what goes first
- Keep watch over routine and urgent jobs, and over how well the crew and contractors are working
- Drive the network, spot defects, hazards and safety risks, and choose the right corrective action
- Log defects and maintenance details using GPS and tablet systems
- Run the response when something urgent happens, whether that is an emergency repair, a night-time incident or an animal on the road
- Work within health, safety and traffic management requirements at all times
- Keep clients, contractors and operational teams in the loop so maintenance programmes get delivered
- Share the on-call roster for incidents and call-outs
- Give your people practical direction, and make your own operational calls when the situation needs it
Requirements & Eligibility
- A history of road maintenance or civil construction work
- Time spent as a roading supervisor or in a foreman-level role
- Solid knowledge of road construction materials and maintenance techniques
- A track record of leading and coordinating a small crew
- Clear communicator who gets on well with people
- Strong at planning, organising and making decisions
- Comfortable working on your own as conditions change
- Happy to use tablets, GPS and basic computer systems
- Experience with AWM or RAMM is highly advantageous
- Serious about workplace health and safety, and understands traffic management requirements
- Stays calm and effective in emergency situations
- Class 2 New Zealand driver's licence or equivalent
- Relevant international roading experience will be considered; verifiable employment, qualification and experience records are needed
