Maintenance and Reliability Lead

Visa sponsorship

Engineering · Perth, WA, Australia · Full-Time · Discussed at interview · Visa: Employer sponsored

A growing Perth manufacturer wants a Maintenance and Reliability Lead to turn maintenance from reactive firefighting into a planned, structured routine. You would split your time between hands-on fault-finding and the planning side, from schedules and asset records to contractor management.

Nothing is fully built yet, so you would shape the system as you go, working with production teams, equipment makers and technical specialists to raise plant availability and reduce repeat breakdowns. It suits a technically strong maintenance professional who is ready to take wider ownership of how equipment performs, and who likes the idea of building something rather than inheriting it.

Hiring managers look for plant specifics, such as the control systems you have fixed, the maintenance software you have used and the reliability gains you have led. When you are ready, write a Perth maintenance and reliability lead CV using Build AI CV.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set the maintenance and reliability direction for the manufacturing site, taking ownership of how available and reliable the plant is and how maintenance performs
  • Design and introduce structured programs for preventative and predictive maintenance, scheduled around production needs and how critical each piece of equipment is
  • Diagnose faults and breakdowns on instrumentation, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and mechanical systems, and do hands-on mechanical and electrical work within the scope of your qualifications and authorisation
  • Troubleshoot automated control systems, motors, instrumentation, sensors, variable-speed drives, HMIs and PLCs
  • Spot equipment that keeps failing, investigate the root cause and apply corrective actions that last
  • Keep accurate records of assets, work orders and equipment histories
  • Strengthen how the CMMS is used, MEX and other maintenance systems included
  • Set up inspection routines, service intervals and maintenance standards, with practical procedures, checklists and technical records
  • Improve how critical spares are identified, held and managed
  • Coordinate contractors, suppliers, manufacturers and other specialist service providers
  • Support equipment installation, commissioning, upgrades and modifications through to handover
  • Help production operators care for equipment and catch faults early
  • Raise plant safety, response times, uptime and efficiency
  • Make sure isolation, lockout/tagout and permit-to-work procedures are followed, along with other safety rules
  • Have licensed and specialist work done by people with the right qualifications

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A recognised trade qualification in mechatronics, electromechanical engineering, fitting and turning, mechanical fitting, industrial electrical or a related technical discipline
  • Solid maintenance background in industrial settings such as manufacturing, processing or production
  • Hands-on record of diagnosing and repairing industrial equipment, with strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding capability
  • Working knowledge of industrial automation and control systems, from motors, sensors and instrumentation to VSDs, HMIs and PLCs
  • Familiar with corrective, predictive and preventative maintenance practices
  • Track record of improving plant reliability and reducing equipment downtime
  • Time spent using a CMMS or computerised maintenance management system
  • MEX or comparable maintenance-system experience will be highly regarded
  • Able to develop maintenance systems, processes and documentation from the ground up
  • Sharp analytical, troubleshooting and root-cause problem-solving skills
  • Can manage contractors, suppliers, manufacturers and competing maintenance priorities
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • Time in food, FMCG, pet food, animal feed, grain, milling or similar manufacturing industries would be advantageous
  • Time with extrusion, conveying, batching, drying, cooling, mixing, coating or automated packing equipment would be advantageous
  • Exposure to commissioning, equipment upgrades, condition monitoring or reliability engineering will be highly regarded
  • Understanding of GMP, HACCP or controlled manufacturing environments would be advantageous
  • Able to work safely within relevant qualifications, licences and authorised scope
  • Australian work rights or eligibility for employer-sponsored employment, plus eligibility to meet Australian visa, qualification recognition, licensing and skills-assessment requirements
