A new premium Italian-inspired dining venue in Dunedin is putting its kitchen team together, and it wants a Line Chef who can own a section from day one. You will help set the kitchen's standards, cook with seasonal ingredients and work on fresh pasta, pizzettas and other Italian-inspired dishes. Consistency, organisation and calm under service pressure matter most.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run your allocated kitchen section from preparation through to service
  • Cook and plate dishes to the venue's recipes and presentation standards
  • Help make fresh pasta and traditional doughs
  • Keep quality, portions, presentation and timing steady across the whole service
  • Set up your mise en place so the section is fully ready each day
  • Support stock control, ordering, food costing and inventory
  • Follow New Zealand food safety and hygiene rules, and keep your workstation clean and efficient
  • Work closely with the Head Chef, Sous Chef and the rest of the kitchen
  • Help build a disciplined, professional kitchen and strong working habits within the team

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 3–5 years of professional chef experience that is relevant to the role
  • Proven experience in a commercial kitchen, including busy or high-volume service periods
  • Italian cuisine experience is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a kitchen section independently
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation, hygiene, and food safety
  • Understanding of stock control and commercial kitchen systems
  • A relevant cookery qualification such as NZ Level 4 or equivalent is preferred
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to hold consistent standards under pressure
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends in a six-day operation
  • Applicants must have legal work rights in New Zealand or meet Accredited Employer Work Visa requirements
