An established HVAC and refrigeration business in Hamilton, New Zealand, needs an experienced HVAC Service Technician to take ownership of complex service and maintenance jobs. Expect commercial HVAC, refrigeration, chillers and central plant systems, spread across a mix of customer sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Service, repair and inspect commercial air conditioning and refrigeration, both scheduled and preventative
  • Keep central plant chilled water systems running and troubleshoot them when they fail
  • Look after VRF/VRV systems plus air-cooled and water-cooled chillers
  • Support DX and chilled water process cooling equipment
  • Trace faults in compressors, fan motors, refrigerant circuits and similar components
  • Install, commission and start up HVAC and refrigeration systems
  • Work from construction drawings, technical documents and equipment specifications
  • Carry out ACR copper pipework and welding, pressure testing and system evacuation where needed
  • Perform authorised electrical isolation, disconnection and reconnection
  • Set up and calibrate temperature controls, including HVAC controls and Building Management System interfaces
  • Diagnose technical problems and choose the right fix
  • Deliver professional workmanship on every customer site, following site safety rules, PPE procedures and workplace Health & Safety standards
  • Join toolbox meetings and site inductions, report safety matters, keep customer relationships positive and take your turn on the after-hours callout roster

Requirements & Eligibility

  • National Certificate in Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning or National Trade Test Certificate Class III Assistant Tradesperson
  • At least 5 years working with central plant systems and chillers after qualifying
  • Applicants who do not hold the specified qualification may be considered if they bring 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Commercial HVAC and refrigeration background, with practical knowledge of chillers, VRF/VRV, DX and chilled water systems
  • Sharp fault-finding, diagnostic and repair ability
  • Hands-on experience with installing, commissioning and starting HVAC and refrigeration systems
  • Comfortable reading technical drawings and equipment specifications
  • Self-reliant, taking ownership of the jobs assigned to you
  • Strong customer service and communication skills, backed by a consistent record of professional workmanship
  • Willing to join an on-call roster, with a commitment to workplace safety and professional site conduct
  • Documents that support your qualifications and relevant employment experience
