Heavy mining equipment keeps New South Wales mines running, and this Newcastle HD Mechanic role is for tradespeople who can keep it safe and reliable. You will diagnose faults, maintain complex machinery and keep critical plant available at a major mining operation.
The job runs on a structured 2/1 roster with an initial contract of 12 months and the possibility of extension. Your trade qualification, work history and hands-on equipment experience count for the most when your application is assessed.

Key Responsibilities
- Service and maintain heavy mobile mining equipment, including planned preventative maintenance and scheduled inspections
- Investigate mechanical faults, run accurate diagnostics and work out the underlying cause
- Repair or replace mechanical components as needed
- Work on Sandvik, Epiroc, CAT, Komatsu, Hitachi and comparable machines
- Rely on technical documentation and diagnostic data while repairing
- Keep equipment available and downtime low
- Follow site procedures and keep safety standards high throughout every maintenance task
- Log completed repairs, inspections and maintenance
- Collaborate with site teams to keep the operation running reliably
Requirements & Eligibility
- A recognised trade qualification as a Heavy Diesel, HD or Mobile Plant Mechanic
- At least 5 years of industry experience after completing your trade
- Proven hands-on work with heavy mobile plant or mining machinery, including practical experience with major OEM equipment
- Experience with Sandvik, Epiroc, CAT, Komatsu or Hitachi equipment
- Strong fault-finding, diagnostic and mechanical repair skills
- An employment history that can be supported with documentation, showing genuine hands-on technical experience
- Willing to work a 2/1 roster
- Able to work safely in a demanding mining environment
- Able to meet applicable visa and sponsorship requirements
