The Christchurch workshop of a crane and lifting equipment specialist, active across New Zealand since 2017, is hiring a dual-skilled Fitter / Turner and Welder (Crane Technician). Alongside the workshop work you would help with servicing jobs out in the field.
It is a close team where workmanship is held to a very high standard and customers are dealt with honestly. People who can both machine and weld, and who enjoy working on lifting gear, will find plenty to get on with. The employer is accredited to sponsor workers on the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV).

Key Responsibilities
- Set up and run conventional workshop machinery, such as lathes, mills and drills, to produce, alter and repair precision crane parts and components
- Carry out certified welding and structural fabrication in steel and aluminum, refurbishing or custom-building crane setups
- Diagnose mechanical faults and machinery breakdowns and handle preventative maintenance on mid-to-high-level lifting systems, working strictly to New Zealand workplace health and safety protocols, engineering standards and workshop guidelines
Requirements & Eligibility
- Trade Certificate or NZQA Level 4 equivalent in Mechanical Engineering (Fitting and Turning / Fabrication)
- A minimum of 5 years working after qualification in heavy mechanical engineering, fabrication, or plant maintenance
- Cranes or hydraulics experience is highly regarded
- Strong at reading and accurately interpreting technical drawings and blueprints, with excellent analytical problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to work
- Legal right to work in New Zealand or willingness to go through the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) process
