You would service, diagnose and repair modern tractors, harvesters and specialised agricultural machinery, visiting customer sites for breakdowns and explaining your findings clearly.

The employer is looking for a diesel, heavy automotive or agricultural machinery technician whose qualifications and practical skills can be verified. Sponsorship is available for eligible overseas applicants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Examine farm machinery and locate mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic faults
  • Handle servicing and preventative maintenance, and repair tractors and other farm equipment mechanically
  • Plug in specialist electronic and manufacturer-approved tools for detailed diagnostics
  • Respond to breakdowns at customer sites and get machines going again in the field
  • Analyse problems methodically and settle on the right repair
  • Work across modern tractors, harvesting equipment and specialised agricultural machinery
  • Stick to safe, efficient methods and deliver quality workmanship
  • Test after repair to confirm the fault has actually been fixed
  • Keep accurate service records, job reports and technical documents
  • Tell customers what you found and what you recommend, in plain terms
  • Build good relationships with farmers, contractors and other machine users
  • Run field jobs with minimal supervision and team up with technicians and support staff on complex issues
  • Keep up with training on modern agricultural machinery systems
  • Be part of the on-call and breakdown response roster when needed

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A relevant qualification in Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Automotive Engineering or Heavy Machinery
  • NZQF Level 4 or higher, or an equivalent recognised overseas qualification
  • Proven practical experience with agricultural tractors or heavy machinery
  • Demonstrable skill in diagnosing and repairing mechanical systems
  • Strong fault-finding across hydraulic, electrical and electronic systems
  • Experience operating or working with electronic diagnostic equipment
  • Understanding of modern agricultural machinery and electronically controlled systems
  • Previous field service experience is highly desirable
  • Agricultural machinery dealership experience will be advantageous
  • Experience with forage harvesters is an advantage but not mandatory
  • Good customer service and communication
  • Comfortable working independently in front of customers in the field
  • A professional attitude and strong attention to detail and workmanship
  • A dependable approach to safety, documentation and service standards, and willing to undertake ongoing technical training
  • Able to take part in an on-call service roster
  • Overseas applicants must be able to provide evidence of relevant qualifications and practical experience
