This Sydney electrical role is for an Electrician or Junior Electrician who wants to grow beyond everyday electrical work into standby power, generator controls and critical building systems. You will be on commercial sites in New South Wales, testing generators, upgrading electrical systems, tracing faults and working on control systems.
Engineering support is on hand, so there is room to build your technical skills. The employer looks closely at your practical background and trade knowledge, and genuine hands-on experience carries the most weight.

Key Responsibilities
- Look after the electrical components in standby generator installations, from servicing to repairs
- Handle the electrical side of generator upgrades and modifications and lend a hand at commissioning
- Carry out emergency power and generator tests while buildings are shut down, including tests tied to AFSS
- Trace faults in controllers, PLCs and control circuits
- Test and troubleshoot Automatic Transfer Switches and the switchgear around them
- Follow electrical schematics and single-line diagrams on the job
- Complete control wiring and testing, plus telemetry and control-system tasks
- Dig into technical problems and settle on workable fixes
- Keep the wider team in the loop while working independently, and support engineers on specialist generator projects
- Cover scheduled night and weekend works
Requirements & Eligibility
- You must hold a current NSW Electrical Licence (essential)
- Proven practical trade experience as an electrician, backed by an employment history that can be verified
- Skilled at interpreting electrical schematics and single-line diagrams
- A strong hands-on approach and confidence with electrical and trade tools
- Good at diagnosing problems and working towards practical solutions
- Comfortable working on your own when needed, and a good contributor in a small team
- Experience with Deep Sea, Cummins, CAT or Woodward generator controllers is advantageous
- Interest in PLCs, control wiring, telemetry and standby power systems
- Full NSW Driver Licence required, with the ability to drive a manual vehicle
- Available for occasional night and weekend work
