Key Responsibilities
- Lay and look after stormwater and sewer drainage
- Construct pressure and gravity drainage networks and run pipelines and related civil infrastructure
- Work at wastewater pump stations, treatment sites and water treatment installations
- Run 20T excavators safely on civil sites, plus loaders, compactors and similar machines
- Excavate, trench, backfill and get sites ready
- Carry out PE welding as required
- Do approved confined-space work
- Put in telecommunications and power utility infrastructure
- Pour and finish concrete, and assist with landscaping and reinstating sites
- Read project requirements and deliver work to specification
- Notice site challenges and offer practical fixes
- Keep output up without letting quality slip
- Team up with operators, drainlayers, supervisors and the rest of the site crew
- Follow health, safety and environmental procedures and limit impacts on the environment and community
- Look after equipment, work areas and sites
Requirements & Eligibility
- Experience in civil construction, drainage or a closely related field
- Hands-on work as a Drainlayer, Drainage Operator, Excavator Operator or Drainage Labourer
- Experience running construction machinery where applicable
- Current and clean Class 2 driver's licence
- Class 4 licence advantageous
- WTR endorsement advantageous
- Excavator, loader, compactor or other heavy machinery experience advantageous
- Solid practical and technical understanding of construction work
- Dependable with a professional work ethic, and adaptable across projects and responsibilities
- Good teamwork and communication, with practical problem-solving ability
- Safety-minded on every site activity and committed to quality workmanship
- Comfortable in a physically demanding construction environment
- Candidates must have valid New Zealand work rights or meet the requirements for employer-supported visa sponsorship
