Dunedin has room for dependable workers with genuine hands-on construction experience. This Construction Technician / Assistant job backs up experienced tradespeople on everyday site work, and it values practical site knowledge, a strong work ethic and safe, quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Back up experienced tradespeople and supervisors on residential, commercial and infrastructure building work
  • Get worksites ready by arranging materials, tools and equipment, and keep the area clean
  • Help prepare, mix, pour, spread and finish concrete
  • Give a hand with carpentry, bricklaying, roofing, flooring, plastering, painting, glazing, plumbing and drainage
  • Do site groundwork such as excavation, trenching, levelling and moving materials
  • Help put in pipes, fittings, drainage parts and building systems, plus heating, cooling and ventilation pathways
  • Measure, cut, fix and set reinforcing steel bars and mesh in place
  • Use hand tools and basic power tools safely to the site's rules
  • Help erect temporary site structures and safety barriers
  • Clear away construction waste and keep the site in order
  • Flag hazards, defects and other issues to supervisors
  • Follow workplace health and safety procedures and keep PPE standards, work with site teams to meet deadlines and quality expectations, and take on other construction support tasks as asked

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 12 months in the construction industry, with proven practical exposure
  • Can demonstrate genuine construction skills and past responsibilities on site
  • Physically capable of manual work in demanding environments
  • Solid grasp of safe work practices and construction site procedures
  • Experience using basic hand tools and power tools
  • Works well in a team and follows supervisors' instructions
  • Reliable attendance, a positive attitude, willingness to contribute and a commitment to learning New Zealand construction standards and workplace expectations
  • Candidates with verified work experience and supporting employment history are encouraged to apply
