A Wellington manufacturer is looking for a CNC Operator who comes from joinery or cabinetmaking and wants to grow as a specialist. The shop makes plywood kitchens, cabinetry and furniture, blending traditional joinery with CNC production and Lean manufacturing.

Your experience can come from overseas or from New Zealand; what counts is that you can show real capability and a good attitude to the work. Eligible overseas applicants may be considered for visa sponsorship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC machines for cabinet and furniture production
  • Machine and prep components to specification
  • Put together and finish cabinets and furniture
  • Check completed pieces for quality and accuracy
  • Spot production problems and help find workable fixes
  • Hold workmanship steady through every production stage
  • Pitch in on installations when required
  • Keep the workshop tidy, organised and efficient
  • Work to production, safety and quality procedures, using Lean manufacturing and 3S principles
  • Look for ways to streamline processes and reduce waste
  • Own your assigned work and finish it to standard as part of the production team
  • Deepen your CNC and production systems knowledge through training and continuous-improvement activities

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Practical background in joinery, cabinetmaking, CNC machining or furniture manufacturing
  • Delivers accurate, high-quality work with close attention to detail
  • Dependable and consistent
  • Solid practical and problem-solving ability
  • Comfortable with limited supervision
  • Keen to pick up new equipment, processes and systems
  • Strong sense of responsibility and personal accountability
  • Responds well to feedback and wants to develop professionally
  • HOMAG, WoodWOP, IMOS or other CNC experience is advantageous
  • Overseas trade experience is welcome, and New Zealand trade experience is not mandatory
  • Current New Zealand manual driver's licence, with the ability to drive a long-wheelbase manual van
  • Willing to complete required Lean training ahead of a practical trial
