A precision engineering workshop in Christchurch is looking for CNC Machinists with genuine, verifiable hands-on expertise. You will work across CNC milling, turning and multi-axis machining on a varied mix of precision components, complex industrial parts, one-off jobs, small production runs and repair or refurbishment work.

That variety suits machinists who can assess a job, make sound technical decisions and deliver accurate results with little supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare CNC machines for precision machining jobs
  • Prove out and refine programs ahead of production runs
  • Operate CNC milling, turning and multi-axis equipment
  • Work from engineering drawings, dimensions and specifications
  • Select tooling, workholding and cutting parameters that suit the job
  • Produce parts to specified sizes and tolerances, measuring and inspecting quality as you go
  • Resolve machining, tooling and setup issues
  • Rely on your own technical judgement for unfamiliar or challenging work
  • Turn out one-off, prototype and low-volume parts
  • Machine complex and larger industrial components
  • Take on repair, refurbishment and modification machining
  • Maintain accuracy and workmanship, monitoring the process and adjusting where necessary
  • Follow safety, quality and operating procedures and meet agreed timeframes
  • Suggest practical improvements to machining methods while working with experienced engineering and workshop colleagues

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Professional CNC Machinist experience, including hands-on CNC setup and operation
  • Worked with CNC milling, turning and/or multi-axis machining
  • Independently able to set and prove machining jobs
  • Precision engineering or comparable machining background
  • Familiar with one-off, small-batch or high-mix production
  • Reads engineering drawings and specifications with confidence
  • Demonstrated knowledge of tooling, cutting parameters and workholding
  • Understands machining tolerances and dimensional accuracy
  • Practical, proven troubleshooting and problem-solving, with sound independent technical decisions
  • Complex or larger industrial component experience is advantageous
  • Detail-focused, quality-minded and safety-focused in how you machine
  • Self-sufficient, yet a positive team contributor
  • A relevant machining trade qualification is advantageous
  • Professional experience and employment history must be capable of verification
  • Candidates must meet applicable New Zealand employment and sponsorship requirements
