In Canberra, a dining and events kitchen is hiring a qualified Chef who values fresh produce, consistency and fine detail. Service is a blend of à la carte and large functions, so your week could take in restaurant guests, weddings, corporate events and private occasions.

You would cook alongside seasoned culinary colleagues, with space to put forward menu ideas, food costing improvements and local ingredients. Visa sponsorship is available for suitable overseas candidates without Australian work rights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cook a range of quality dishes for à la carte and function service
  • Work with the Head Chef to deliver menus and day-to-day kitchen needs
  • Help plan, develop and cost menus
  • Choose, check and prepare fresh ingredients to the required quality
  • Store food, rotate stock and handle ingredients correctly, and help with ordering and inventory control
  • Watch preparation so dishes stay consistent and well presented
  • Cut waste through careful preparation, portioning and storage
  • Pick the right cooking technique for each dish
  • Keep kitchen hygiene and food safety strict
  • Stay effective in busy restaurant and function services and coordinate kitchen workflow
  • Guide junior cooks and hand them preparation tasks that fit their capability
  • Spot efficiency gains and pass recommendations on
  • Join the wider hospitality team in giving guests a great experience
  • Know local and regional produce and how to handle it

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent recognised qualification
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional kitchen experience
  • Strong background in commercial cooking and food preparation, including quality dining; fine dining experience is advantageous
  • Regional or rural hospitality experience is advantageous
  • Good grasp of food safety, hygiene and kitchen procedures
  • Comfortable with fresh and seasonal produce
  • Keen eye for food quality, presentation and consistency
  • Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen
  • Multitasking and time-management strength, staying composed and making effective decisions under pressure
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Able to help supervise junior staff and delegate tasks to them
  • Professional attitude and commitment to high hospitality standards
  • Genuine interest in developing a long-term culinary career in Australia
  • Must satisfy relevant Australian employment and visa requirements
