Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook Japanese-inspired dishes to the kitchen's quality standards
- Do the daily prep so ingredients are ready for service
- Choose suitable cooking techniques for consistent results
- Keep flavour, portions and presentation on target
- Move between kitchen sections as prep and service demand
- Time cooking and prep so meals reach the table promptly
- Stick to set recipes, procedures and portion controls
- Suggest ideas for menu updates, seasonal offerings and new dishes
- Check and prepare ingredients so quality stays high
- Keep workstations clean, organised and ready for service
- Set prep priorities in high-volume periods and keep an eye on ingredient usage, reporting stock needs and helping with ordering
- Follow food safety, hygiene and workplace safety procedures, talk well with chefs and colleagues, and help keep the kitchen culture positive and disciplined
Requirements & Eligibility
- At least 3 years of relevant professional kitchen experience
- A relevant culinary, commercial cookery or equivalent qualification
- Able to show you can work in a commercial restaurant
- Japanese cuisine experience will be viewed favourably
- Strong practical knowledge of cooking and food preparation
- Understands professional food safety and hygiene practices
- Stays consistent and detail-minded during busy service
- Strong planning, organisation and time-management
- Works well without constant supervision, and collaborates with the wider kitchen and restaurant team
- Professional, reliable and quality-focused, with good workplace communication
- Available for rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends and public holidays
- Can provide verifiable evidence of relevant qualifications and experience, and must satisfy Australian employment and visa eligibility requirements
