Carpet & Flooring Installer

Visa sponsorship

Trade · Christchurch, New Zealand · Full-Time · $25 - $38/hr · Visa: Employer sponsored

Christchurch's growing flooring company wants seasoned carpet and flooring installers, senior installers ready to take charge of jobs, and enthusiastic newcomers keen to learn the trade. Juniors, apprentices and people hoping to begin one are encouraged to apply, and several people may be appointed. Jobs are mostly house and light commercial fit-outs around the city.

These are permanent full-time positions of at least 37.5 hours weekly, typically 40–42, mostly Monday to Friday with the odd extra hour when needed. A senior installer takes a job from the moment they reach site until handover and directs one other installer or a small crew, while trainees learn alongside seasoned hands under supervision that matches their skill level. Sponsorship for the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) is part of the picture: applicants who need employer support to apply are welcome, though any offer depends on securing the right New Zealand work rights.

Whether you already lay carpet or are just starting out, list your flooring jobs, driver licence and any trade training clearly. You can prepare a Christchurch flooring installer CV on Build AI CV in a few steps.

Key Responsibilities

  • Go through the job details first, confirming materials, quantities and what the installation calls for.
  • Take accurate measurements, set out the layout, then cut and fit the flooring.
  • Lay carpet with underlay, trims and accessories; where trained and capable, lay sheet vinyl and vinyl planks too.
  • Get floors ready by smoothing, grinding or levelling as required, and strip out and dispose of old flooring.
  • Flag access, preparation, scheduling or site-condition problems as soon as you spot them.
  • Hold quality standards and leave each finished job clean and tidy.
  • Talk professionally with customers, builders, site managers and suppliers.
  • Fill in timesheets and job records accurately.
  • Move materials, tools and equipment safely between van and site, keep tools in good order and follow health and safety rules.

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Dependable, on time and proud of the work you produce.
  • Communicates well and deals with customers in a professional way.
  • Works productively in a team, takes instruction and keeps improving.
  • Can safely manage flooring materials and cope with the physical demands of the job.
  • A full driver licence for senior installers; for junior and trainee applicants a licence is preferred, but reliable transport to the agreed meeting point is essential.
  • Senior roles call for strong carpet installation skills, independence in running jobs, and the confidence to organise and support another installer or a small crew.
  • Sheet vinyl and vinyl plank flooring installation experience is highly valued; trainees need no previous flooring experience, but reliability, a willingness to learn, practical interest and a good attitude towards work are essential.
