A well-established construction business in Victoria is looking for a Carpenter to join residential and commercial building projects around Melbourne. Expect a mix of structural timber framing, flooring, external timber work, fittings and repairs, nearly all of it worked from plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Study architectural and construction drawings, then plan each stage of the carpentry work
  • Work out measurements, materials and the sequence of tasks from the project specifications
  • Mark out, measure, cut and shape timber and other building materials
  • Frame up walls, roofs, floor joists and sub-floor systems, joining structural timber so it sits true and is fastened securely
  • Hang timber door and window frames and fit related building components
  • Finish external timber work including fascia, wall cladding and roof sheathing
  • Install prefabricated and timber fittings as the project calls for, trimming and adjusting parts until they fit on site
  • Repair, alter or replace timber structures that have been damaged
  • Set up and strip temporary timber formwork for concrete works
  • Handle hand tools, power tools and construction equipment safely and efficiently
  • Deliver good workmanship while following the site's safety procedures

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A Certificate III in Carpentry, or an equivalent qualification that is recognised
  • Proven hands-on work in residential and/or commercial construction
  • Practical know-how in timber framing and structural carpentry
  • Experience across general carpentry, installation and repair jobs
  • Confident use of carpentry hand tools, power tools and related equipment
  • Accurate reading of construction drawings and specifications, with strong measuring, cutting, fitting and installation skills
  • An understanding of building methods and workplace safety procedures
  • Works independently yet pulls weight in a construction team, and is willing to meet relevant Australian construction and site requirements
