An Auckland automotive paintshop has openings for an experienced Automotive Spray Painter and a Paintshop Prepper / Assistant, both permanent and full-time. The Spray Painter role centres on consistent finishes, accurate colour matching and efficient refinishing. The Prepper / Assistant role suits someone with preparation experience or a motivated learner who hopes to progress towards an apprenticeship. Sponsorship is available for suitably qualified overseas candidates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Spray paint and refinish vehicles to a consistently high standard
  • Prepare vehicles and panels for finishing, matching and blending colours
  • Check finished work against quality standards
  • Hit workshop production deadlines with close attention to detail in both preparation and painting
  • Work independently while lifting overall team output
  • As a Prepper / Assistant, get vehicles, panels and surfaces ready for refinishing through sanding, masking and other preparation
  • Help with priming and surface preparation
  • Back up the Spray Painters in daily paintshop operations and keep work flowing
  • Keep work areas, tools and equipment clean and orderly, and take on general paintshop duties when asked
  • Follow workplace health, safety and quality procedures
  • Learn refinishing processes and technical skills hands-on
  • Work towards a possible apprenticeship or career progression

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Proven automotive spray painting experience for Spray Painter applicants
  • Colour-matching and refinishing skills; able to produce professional, consistent finishes
  • Careful, detail-focused work
  • Relevant experience in automotive preparation and refinishing processes
  • Previous paint preparation experience is advantageous for Prepper / Assistant applicants; knowledge of sanding, masking and priming is beneficial
  • Efficient, meeting production deadlines
  • Reliable, punctual and self-motivated, with a strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Works effectively within a team and is keen to learn new technical skills
  • Must be able to demonstrate genuine and relevant work experience
  • Overseas applicants must meet applicable New Zealand employment and visa requirements
