Esperance, Western Australia, is where an established machinery business needs a permanent full-time Agricultural Diesel Mechanic. You would keep modern farm equipment running, splitting your time between the workshop and field servicing, and planting and harvest are when reliable maintenance matters most. Key Responsibilities
- Service, maintain and repair diesel-powered farm machinery
- Trace mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic faults with modern diagnostic equipment and electronic scan tools
- Look after tractors, harvesters, headers, sprayers, seeders and other equipment
- Schedule preventative maintenance for dependable machines, and inspect them to catch faults early and avoid major downtime
- Attend breakdowns and fix machines in the field when farming is at its busiest
- Repair and troubleshoot diesel engines, transmissions and driveline systems
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic and electrical systems
- Get workshop and field repairs done efficiently, fabricating, modifying or adapting components where needed
- Keep clear maintenance and service records
- Follow safety, environmental and quality procedures, communicating clearly with colleagues, customers and others involved
- Have machinery ready for planting and harvest, including seasonal on-call duty where necessary
Requirements & Eligibility
- Recognised trade qualification in Heavy Diesel Mechanics, Mobile Plant Technology or an equivalent discipline
- Minimum 5 years of post-trade mechanical experience
- Experience with agricultural machinery is essential
- Hands-on time with tractors, combines, headers, sprayers or related farm equipment
- Experience on machinery for broadacre cropping, livestock or mixed farming is valued highly
- Sharp mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and diagnostic fault-finding skills, able to identify faults and finish repairs without help
- Happy working in the workshop and outdoors in rural settings
- Fluent English communication skills are essential
- Current driver's licence; an HR licence is advantageous
- Strong work ethic, dependable and professional
- Can provide evidence of qualifications and relevant employment experience, and must be able to satisfy applicable Australian employment and visa requirements
